Accounting Team Openings:

Tax Manager - Full Time

The Tax Manager is responsible contributing to the achievements of his/her group objectives including:

  • Managing or supervising in all aspects of existing and new client tax relationships as assigned by the Partners
  • Training and supervising tax staff
  • Assisting with office administration including client invoicing and collection, staff coaching, mentoring and training, quality control, strategic planning, scheduling, etc.
  • Collaborating with team members to develop innovative accounting practices that adhere to required standards but serve our clients interests

Requirements:

  • Active CPA license and Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Experience commensurate with those required to be a tax manager
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good research skills
  • Excellent understanding, comprehension and ability to articulate tax and accounting concepts

Tax Accountant

We are looking for an energetic and upbeat individual to join one of the leading certified public accounting firms in Colorado Springs. If you are looking for a job that exposes you to a wide variety of businesses and individuals, this is the job for you. Experience working with QuickBooks software, payroll processing and income tax return preparation are absolutely essential to succeeding this role in our firm. CPA license preferred, but not required. We provide an excellent benefit package and salary is based upon experience.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals, businesses, trusts, estates and non-profits
  • Research and provide summary memos on technical tax issues at the request of partners and clients
  • Assist in representing clients before federal, state and local taxing authorities
  • Keep up to date on current developments in income tax
  • Assist in financial planning and analysis for clients
  • Assist clients with QuickBooks or other accounting, tax or payroll related questions

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (CPA certificate or desire to pursue CPA certificate a plus)
  • 2 years experience in public accounting a plus (internship option availible)

Audit and Assurance Team Member

The Audit and Assurance Team Member will assist in performing audit and assurance preparation work for Erickson, Brown & Kloster P.C.'s audit and assurance client accounts as assigned by the Audit and Assurance Partner or Manager. The Team Member will also collaborate with the Audit and Assurance Team to develop innovative audit and assurance practices that adhere to required standards while providing additional value to our clients.

           RESPONSIBILITES

  • Engagement Participation
    - Manages budgets for his/her portion of client projects, raising red flags to their supervsor when a project grows out of scope or is moving toward a budgetary or timing overage.
    - Communicates the engagement progress and status of his/her supervisor (and the client if directed) on a timely and ongoing basis.
  • Technical and Client Service Calls
    - Assurance work paper preparation and client file setup.
    - Trial balance setup.
    - Creates and updates schedules, including calculations, analyses layout and referencing.
    - Vouches and traces to and from client documents.
    - Reconciles and rolls forward client balances.
    - Prepares and/or updates deliverables (financial statements and management reports).
    - Interacts with client personnel on an as needed basis.
    - Meets rising standards of quality control while maintaining EBK's lean assurance approach.
    - Attends Continuing Professional Education seminars as agreed upon with your supervisor.
  • Administration
    - Adheres to the office administration and billing policies of Erickson, Brown & Kloster, P.C. including entering time into the timekeeping system within the timing specified.
    - Participates in the firm's strategic planning process when requested.
    - Advocates "best practices" suited to this practice niche.
    - Participates in community events and making potential referral contacts.

    QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting: CPA certificate or desire to pursue CPA certificate a plus.
  • Experience: 2 years audit and assurance service experience required.
  • Substantial knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and ability to articulate auditing and accounting concepts.

Audit Manager

Position Purpose

The Assurance Director has the overall responsibility for achieving EBK’s goals and growth plans for the assurance department. The Assurance Director is responsible for staff and client satisfaction within the assurance department. In addition, the Assurance Director is responsible for making sure that EBK’s assurance work product meets the professional standards as formulated by the AICPA, FASB and other relevant governing bodies and that EBK is following their quality control requirements as outlined in EBK’s Quality Control Document.

Position Responsibilities

          Leadership

  • Participates with the Partner Group in developing and updating the department’s future strategic plan including defining niche industry areas, annual goals/objectives and annual budgets.
  • Ensures that the department’s goals/objectives and budgets are met each year.
  • Develops and reviews department policies, procedures and service methodologies and ensures that staff follow them.
  • Manages the assurance department’s staff and assisting them with career advising, goal setting, reviewing and discussing career path adjustments.
  • Identifies future leaders for training and career advising.
  • Plans and facilitates department meetings to communicate the department’s direction, any changes in firm staffing or policies, new client opportunities, client project status, and relevant technical discussions, etc.
  • Reinforces firm or departmental decisions communicated to staff.
  • Monitors department workflows while developing improved workflow processes as needed.
  • Seek and evaluate staff feedback.
  • Be seen as a role model for assurance staff.
  • Oversee the peer review process, internal inspections, and maintaining/updating EBK’s Quality Control Document.

    Engagement Management and Service Delivery
  • Ensures that financial statements, notes and management letters/assurance reports are prepared in accordance with professional and firm standards.
  • Reviews work papers for conformity to assurance standards based upon level of service.
  • Oversees resource scheduling including sizing assurance jobs, establishing budgets for time spent in each phase, and then directing EBK’s resources to meet the budgets and client expectations.
  • Supervising managers assigned to jobs to insure that schedules, budgets, and quality requirements are met.
  • Communicating the engagement status with the client and their advisors on a timely and ongoing basis.
  • Deliver high quality assurance services, including preparing and reviewing assurance plans and work.
  • Think strategically about client needs by understanding their business and key risks.
  • Develop recommendations based on assurance services performed and present these ideas to Managing Partner.

    Financial
  • Works to fulfill the financial plan for the department that achieves the firm’s financial goals, including expenditures, departmental revenue goals, and staff productivity goals.
  • Works to improve the department’s profitability, revenue per engagement, and performance against budget with the Managing Partner.
  • Authorizes reimbursable client expenditures and overtime for assigned staff.
  • Adhering to the office administration and billing policies of EBK, reviewing and issuing bills on time, and collecting outstanding client receivables for their clients.
  • Review the annual Thomson Reuters/PPC renewal contract as it relates to the assurance department subscriptions and tools.
  • Oversee evaluation of additional software programs that may need to be implemented to complement our current software and potential changes to the current software. Efforts should be focused on staff time savings.

           Human Resources

  • Recommends promotions and terminations in the department to the Managing Partner.
  • Manages assigned staff in the department and establishes and enforces accountability mechanisms.
  • Develops and delivers department staffs’ annual performance reviews.
  • Recommends salaries, bonuses and raises for department staff to the Managing Partner.
  • Monitors, reviews and approves technical and soft skills CPE plans for department staff.
  • Provides Input to the annual staff capacity projections for the department and potential new hires needed for the department.
  • Participates in the recruiting process for the department. This would include reviewing resumes, participating in interviews and providing feedback to the Partner Group on potential new hires.

   Marketing

  • Develops alliances and referral relationships.
  • Represents the firm at key community events, firm functions, and other meetings.

    Sales
  • Develops new client business through personal sales efforts.
  • Identifies existing clients’ needs and refers client leads to the appropriate EBK staff person.

    Technical and Client Management
  • Maintains a high level of understanding of the technical and professional standards in the assurance field and EBK niches to add value to clients and be seen as a specialist.
  • Works to keep the department up-to-date on new and changing professional standards that occur throughout the year.
  • Analyzes problems, designs and implements solutions that accomplish the clients’ objectives.
  • Assigns adequate resources to projects in light of other scheduling requirements.
  • Ensures that software used for the department functions properly.
  • Oversees and manages assurance workpaper methodologies and ensure that standardized workpaper forms are updated as necessary and meet the needs of the firm and professional standards.
  • Serves as mentor and advisor to managers during various phases of client relationships and technical matters as warranted.
  • Nurtures long term relationships with clients – develops a partnership with the client to identify issues and trends and identify innovative solutions and ideas.
  • Responsible for assurance client satisfaction.
  • Establishes and updates quality control procedures.
  • Attends continuing professional education that is relevant, timely and necessary to ensure that the department is complying with the professional standards.
  • Possesses and maintains a high level of technical research skills.
  • Strives to continually increase the efficiency of assurance work performed.

    Risk Management
  • Ensures work products meet the professional standards as formulated by the AICPA, FASB and other relevant governing bodies.
  • Ensures the firm is compliant and protected against risk, including managing the firm’s peer review and compliance with professional standards.

Skills and Education Required

  • Active CPA license and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 7+ years of assurance experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and GAAS
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good research skills.
  • Positive, can-do demeanor with willingness to “dig in” and get the work done.
